Hello everyone!
Yes, this is the 5th edition no less of my language school blog so I feel like celebrating, ha ha! And I find it really easy to write my first entry for the new year. Let me ask you all a question: What do The Beatles' song "Love me do" and James Bond's film "Dr No" have in common? No clue? Well, the answer is pretty simple: they were both released, isn't it coincidence, on October 5th, exactly 50 years from now.
Music and movies, I cannot think of a better way to get things going. I know I already closed my previous blog by publishing a few of entries (from me and my students) about the Fab Four's famous anniversary, but it seems just as suitable to start my latest one on the same note. After all, they are arguably the biggest band in history.
So folks, this is the happy news of Love me do's 50th anniversary on the BBC. By the way, can I just say it's great to hear Sir George Martin reminiscing the old days ...?
Then Bond, James Bond. Love him or hate him, his movies are the longest-running (and one of the most successful) franchises in the history of film making. Half a century and six different Bond actors later, # 007 has scooped billions in ticket sales over 22 films. The latest, by the name of Skyfall (featuring, I hear, our own Javier Bardem as the omnipresent fim's villain), will be premiered in a month.
First, this is the original trailer for Dr No, starring to my mind the most recognizable Bond actor, the one and only Sean Connery.
My question to you guys is: What is your fave Bond film? And which actor do you think best embodies 007's qualities and personality? Difficult to answer, is it? Well, to help you out, this is a lovely clip featuring a selection of 50 memorable scenes of the series over the years. Take your pick, from Sir Sean Connery to, you know who, the current Daniel Craig.
By the way, I'd like to play a humble tribute to the ever so likable Welsh actor Desmond Llewelyn, who played the unforgettable Q for 36 long years, can you believe it!
So c'mon guys, send in your posts / comments starting today. I hope this 5th upgraded edition of my / your blog will be the most successful / participative ever. Cheers!
Great start for this fifth edition.Good luck and successful development throughout this year.
ReplyDelete"Love me do". Unforgettable. For me the everlasting James Bond was and will be Sean Connery. I am looking forward to the upcoming release of Skyfall.I like Javier Bardem in any of the roles he has done in the film, hopefully not disappoint me here.
Music & cinema. José Luis, I can't imagine a better beginning for your brand new blog! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThat’s right, the international star of mystery is back. It's a big date for diehard James Bond fans!
I've got incredibly high hopes for 'Skyfall' and I love the film trailers, although I'm a huge fan of Sir Sean Connery playing the role of 007, the same as you, dear anonymous. I also hope Daniel Craig does a great James Bond and keeps 007's traditional taste for fast cars, beautiful women, high-tech gadgets and vodka Martinis.
It's interesting to see how the movies have changed over the years, and they are as good now as they have ever been, even if not everyone likes Bond, as the films have often been labeled as sexist for the endless line of women who fall into Bond's arms.
To mark 'Global Bond’s Celebration', actor Daniel Craig, as 007, and Queen Elizabeth, appeared together in a short, comic scene at Buckingham Palace in a highlight of the London Olympics opening ceremony this summer. Furthermore, British diva Adele released a clip of the main theme song for 'Skyfall', such an awesome song! And MoMA, The Museum of Modern Art of NY, is dedicating the month of October to James Bond by paying tribute to 007 with a full retrospective of Bond movies.
So, what more can I say? This is my small tribute to 'Bond's 50th anniversary', happy birthday, dear 007!

I´m optimistic about my future, taking into account health, family and work.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking about health, I´d like to say that I´ve sufered different kinds of illnesses related to blood cancer since 2000. However, after a few treatments and a stem cell transplant I got over the cancer and today I can state that I´m totally recovered and I´m an optimistic, healthy person.
With reference to my family, I should say, although it seemed impossible to become a mother due to the treatments, that finally I´ve got a restless eight-year-old son and that makes me feel absolutely delighted. In fact, he is without a doubt the main reason of my life.
Last but not least, as regards work, I have a degree in Chemistry and I missed the apportunity to work as a teacher several years ago. But once I recovered my health I had second thoughts about my career and I decided that the best way to work again was studying English. Nowadays my aim is to study the language in order to achieve the necessary level to become an English Science teacher at a high-school.
Needless to say, I´m doing my best and I´m completely sure that it´ll happen in the near future. Why not?.
