Hello everyone!
Yes, this is the 5th edition no less of my language school blog so I feel like celebrating, ha ha! And I find it really easy to write my first entry for the new year. Let me ask you all a question: What do The Beatles' song "Love me do" and James Bond's film "Dr No" have in common? No clue? Well, the answer is pretty simple: they were both released, isn't it coincidence, on October 5th, exactly 50 years from now.
Music and movies, I cannot think of a better way to get things going. I know I already closed my previous blog by publishing a few of entries (from me and my students) about the Fab Four's famous anniversary, but it seems just as suitable to start my latest one on the same note. After all, they are arguably the biggest band in history.
So folks, this is the happy news of Love me do's 50th anniversary on the BBC. By the way, can I just say it's great to hear Sir George Martin reminiscing the old days ...?
Then Bond, James Bond. Love him or hate him, his movies are the longest-running (and one of the most successful) franchises in the history of film making. Half a century and six different Bond actors later, # 007 has scooped billions in ticket sales over 22 films. The latest, by the name of Skyfall (featuring, I hear, our own Javier Bardem as the omnipresent fim's villain), will be premiered in a month.
First, this is the original trailer for Dr No, starring to my mind the most recognizable Bond actor, the one and only Sean Connery.
My question to you guys is: What is your fave Bond film? And which actor do you think best embodies 007's qualities and personality? Difficult to answer, is it? Well, to help you out, this is a lovely clip featuring a selection of 50 memorable scenes of the series over the years. Take your pick, from Sir Sean Connery to, you know who, the current Daniel Craig.
By the way, I'd like to play a humble tribute to the ever so likable Welsh actor Desmond Llewelyn, who played the unforgettable Q for 36 long years, can you believe it!
So c'mon guys, send in your posts / comments starting today. I hope this 5th upgraded edition of my / your blog will be the most successful / participative ever. Cheers!
